Baked Chicken Ziti

Updated: Dec 29, 2019

Sometimes you just need some comfort food! What’s more comforting than a pasta dish with melted cheese? This is great for a weeknight dinner because it starts with a grocery store rotisserie chicken to make it quick and easy!

Here‘s what you need:

Salt to taste

8 oz whole grain ziti or penne noodles

1 rotisserie chicken, meat diced ( 2-3 cups chicken)

1 24 oz jar chunky garden style pasta sauce

8 oz light sour cream

1 T Italian seasoning

1 t garlic powder

1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

2 cups Italian blend cheese, shredded

Preheat the oven to 375. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.

Cook the pasta noodles for only 5 minutes in lightly salted boiling water. ( It will be undercooked)

Drain well.

In a large mixing bowl, mix the diced chicken, cooked pasta, pasta sauce, sour cream, garlic powder and Italian seasoning.

Put half of the pasta mixture in the baking dish. Top with half of the fresh basil and half the cheese. Pour in the rest of the pasta mixture, and top with the rest of the basil and the remaining cheese.

Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melty. To serve, top with more fresh basil and cracked red pepper if you like.
